Haiti: Undefined

Carol Guzy is a world renowned photojournalist who built her career on hope and empathy, earning her four Pulitzer Prizes. While working for The Miami Herald, she felt a connection with the story of Haiti, and continued to photograph their culture for decades. To show her journey as a photographer and how she sees turmoil, I created a printed book of digitized negatives from Little Haiti and Haiti during the 80’s and 90’s. This project explores unpublished photos about life in a conflict zone and cultural imbalance.

Hallowed Ground

Hallowed Ground is a short documentary about two student orators, Tian Stephens and Anastajia Charley, learning the words of Frederick Douglass as they navigate issues of racism that shaped Douglass's life and work. The story is told through the students’ participation in a national oratorical contest while exploring their different educational experience. Seeing today’s students giving voice to yesterday’s words draws attention to how the contemporary United States is still engaging many of the same issues Douglass was fighting against.
