2024 Sports Action

Images from a sporting event that captures peak action of individual or team sports. Jubilation, dejection, and reaction photographs should be entered into the sports feature category.

First Place: Joseph Ciembroniewicz

Ryan May, 18, Clarkson University class of 2027, races down a berm after completing a steep rock drop on the fifth stage of the enduro course at the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference hosted by Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. on Sept. 23, 2023. May finished eighth in the B category, qualifying for the dual slalom race the next day. He states, “I could’ve pushed myself a little harder.”

Third Place: Travis LaCoss

Dick Greco “Hardcore” pulls barbed wire across the face of Dylan Miller “Kamikaze” during a death match wrestling performance at Death Fest in East Haven, Conn., on March 8, 2024. Death Fest is a death metal musical festival. During intermission they performed a death match on a concrete floor covered with a tarp. Wrestlers often get hurt severely, as Greco did when he broke is spine in a match years ago. This style of wrestling is illegal in Greco’s home state of New York.

Honorable Mention: Kayla Bartkowski

Tyler Swallow, 12, crashes after attempting a trick during the 2023 Halloween Jump Jam at Pinnacle Hill on Oct. 29, 2023 in Rochester, N.Y. Swallow placed first place in best whip and second in best trick.
