Congratulations! to Senior RIT photojournalism student Jennifer Waldow for winning Gold in the College Photographer of the Year portrait category for her portrait of Leisha , 37, who, after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, decided to live every day for her two sons. Jennifer also won an Award of Excellence in the domestic picture story category for her story on Leisha.

The judges say it all:
“A picture like that is exactly what this category is for and why (it) exists. It’s totally intimate, very revealing…those are the kinds of pictures I want to applaud…those are the kinds of pictures that make me want to try harder…”
“I think the photographer got out of the way and let subject tell (the story).”
